Mummy’s Wish

GUEST SPEAKER –

Today at our Change Over, the guest speaker was Bernadette Vella founder of Mummy’s Wish.
Bernadette spoke to us about her journey and what led to this amazing organisation being born.
The Mission and Vision of Mummy’s wish is to support Australian families with children aged 12 years and under through the provision of practical, immediate and non-means tested support whilst Mum is receiving treatment for cancer. To manage the distressing impact of cancer on Mums and their family unit.
Did you know, every day around Australia 13 other families, just like the founder of Mummy’s Wish have their lives turned upside down when they find out Mum has cancer. Mummy’s wish have touched over 2000 families since 2007 and expect that number to increase by the end of 2017.

Quota Carindale will be holding a fundraising event later in 2017 for support of Mummy’s Wish.

Care Bears for the QAS

During our Change over each year we invite the QAS Officers to come along and celebrate with us and at this time we give them a huge bundle of Care Bears.  This is the twentieth year that Quota has supported the various QAS Stations. It was wonderful to welcome Jamie from QAS Carina and Mick from QAS Mt Gravatt to the event to receive this years bundle of bears.

We love that our cheques help

Our Change over event is not only for welcoming in any new members and changing our committee roles. It is also the time that we present our awards and cheques to the well deserved charities that we have been raising funds for all year.

We have been supporting CleftPALS QLD Inc. and Asperger Services Australia Ltd.  We were again delighted to present them both with a cheque to help in their work. As well as these we are now happy to be able to say we could present a cheque to Cindy Corrie from The Sycamore School – Autism Friendly Learning to help.

We also welcomed a special young boy to receive a donation. Kein is in yr 6 at Belmont State School, he fixes computers and gives to children who need one. What a wonderful caring young lad.

Our Change Over

2017 Change over was held at Ave’ Cucina & Coffee Bar, Eva Street, Coorparoo where congratulations were given to last years committee and members for all the work that had been achieved in helping various organisations.  The new committee was welcomed in and we are looking forward to a successful year ahead.  The well deserving charities Quota Carindale support will be thrilled with the proceeds of our many fundraising events. Today we were able to donate more bears to QAS Mt Gravatt and Carina stations. Thank you to Jamie from the Carina Station and Mick from Mt Gravatt for attending our event today. This is the twentieth year that Bears have been given to the various QAS Stations.

CleftPALS QLD Inc.,a national, voluntary group, comprising parents, relatives and professionals interested in the welfare of children born with cleft related conditions and Asperger Services Australia, which is a volunteer not for profit organisation established in 1995, and provides support to parents, carers, families, individuals, service providers and professionals. It was with pleasure that once again we were able to make a donation to each of these organisations.

We welcomed the Chaplains from Dunwich State School Whites Hill State College and Carina State School to help them with the great work they are doing with the young students.

It was a pleasure to be able to present a cheque to Cindy Corrie from The Sycamore School – Autism Friendly Learning to help. This concept of a school for kids with autism was born from the schooling experiences of Brisbane parents and their children with autism.  A group of these parents formed a not-for-profit organisation, and worked for two years to bring The Sycamore School to fruition.

Our guest speaker this year was Bernadette Vella founder of Mummy’s Wish who spoke to us about her journey and how this amazing organisation was born, the work they do is to help families where the Mum is suffering from cancer and they have children under 12 years.

Quota had pleasure in presenting Zena Kennedy will the Inaugural Quota Woman of the Year for Quota Carindale. Congratulations Zena and thank you for all the volunteer work you do in the community.

Filling our Buckets of Love

The 89th Convention for Quota International is being hosted in Brisbane and the Service-on-Site project planned for this year is Buckets of Love.

Quota International is partnering with the Combined Women’s Refuge Group to support women’s shelters for women and children victims of domestic violence. Two representatives from Combined Women’s Refuge Group will attend on Sunday morning to receive Quota’s “Buckets of Love” and tell us a little of their work.

Quota Carindale has painted their bucket, making it look extra special, thanks to a very talented niece of one of the Quotarians.

It has now been filled with light women’s night wear, children’s pyjamas, children’s books, games and puzzles.
